Accessibility Statement

Nicholson Nairn Architects

Last updated: 26 October 2026

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

Nicholson Nairn Architects is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible digital experience for everyone who visits our website, regardless of ability, technology or individual circumstances.

We believe that good design should be accessible to all. This principle extends beyond the buildings and spaces we design to the way we communicate, share information and engage with people online.

We aim to make our website accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with visual, hearing, motor, cognitive or neurological disabilities, and those using assistive technologies.

Accessibility is an ongoing consideration in the design, development and maintenance of our website.

2. Accessibility Standards

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

These internationally recognised guidelines are based on four principles. Digital content should be:

  • Perceivable: Information and interface elements should be presented in ways that users can perceive.

  • Operable: Navigation and interactive elements should be usable through different methods of interaction.

  • Understandable: Information and functionality should be clear, predictable and straightforward.

  • Robust: Content should work reliably with different browsers and assistive technologies.

We also recognise our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, including the duty to make reasonable adjustments where applicable.

3. Current Accessibility Status

Nicholson Nairn Architects aims to achieve WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance.

While accessibility has been considered during the design and development of this website, a comprehensive accessibility assessment against WCAG 2.2 Level AA has not yet been completed.

The website's conformance status is therefore currently recorded as not yet fully assessed. We cannot confirm full conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA at this stage.

We intend to review accessibility across the website, identify potential barriers and prioritise appropriate improvements.

This statement will be updated as assessments are completed and further information about the website's accessibility becomes available.

4. Accessibility Features and Design Principles

Our website has been developed with accessibility as an important design consideration. We aim to support the following features and practices, although their implementation and effectiveness have not yet been comprehensively verified.

Navigation and Interaction

Our accessibility objectives include:

  • Clear and consistent navigation across the website.

  • Meaningful headings and logically structured content.

  • Descriptive links and identifiable interactive elements.

  • Navigation and operation using a keyboard without requiring a mouse.

  • Access to essential content and functionality without relying exclusively on dragging, hovering or bespoke scrolling interactions.

Visual Accessibility

Our accessibility objectives include:

  • Readable typography and appropriate text spacing.

  • Sufficient contrast between text, interactive elements and backgrounds.

  • Responsive layouts that accommodate different devices and screen sizes.

  • Support for browser zoom and text resizing without loss of essential content or functionality.

  • Presentation of information without relying solely on colour.

  • Suitable text alternatives for meaningful images and visual content.

Colour contrast, text resizing and responsive behaviour are among the areas requiring further assessment.

Animation and Motion
Our website incorporates animations, transitions and interactive visual elements that form part of its design identity.

We recognise that motion and animation can create accessibility challenges for some visitors.

Our objectives include:

  • Respecting device and browser preferences for reduced motion.

  • Limiting unnecessary animation and visual distractions.

  • Avoiding flashing or rapidly changing content that could cause discomfort.

  • Ensuring essential information does not depend solely on animation.

  • Providing accessible ways to navigate content presented through animated or interactive experiences.

The compatibility of our animations and interactive elements with reduced-motion preferences and assistive technologies requires further assessment.

Content and Media

We aim to present information in a clear, accessible and understandable manner.

Where appropriate, our accessibility objectives include:

  • Descriptive alternative text for meaningful imagery.

  • Appropriate labels and descriptions for links and controls.

  • Captions or transcripts for relevant audio and video content.

  • Accessible alternatives for documents or media that cannot otherwise be accessed.

Decorative imagery may be excluded from assistive technologies where it does not communicate essential information.

The accessibility of published images, documents and media will be considered as part of our ongoing review.

5. Compatibility with Devices and Assistive Technologies

Our website is intended for use across modern desktop computers, tablets and mobile devices.

We aim to support visitors using a range of browsers, operating systems and assistive technologies, including:

  • Screen readers.

  • Screen magnification tools.

  • Keyboard-only navigation.

  • Voice-control and speech-recognition software.

  • Operating-system accessibility settings.

However, comprehensive compatibility testing across these technologies has not yet been completed.

We therefore cannot guarantee that all website features will operate consistently with every browser, device or assistive technology.

Visitors may benefit from using an up-to-date browser and operating system, although access to essential information should not depend unnecessarily on the latest technology.
If you experience a compatibility issue, please contact us using the details provided in Section 8.

6. Potential Limitations and Ongoing Improvements

Although we aim to make our website accessible to everyone, some areas may not yet provide an equivalent experience for all visitors.

The following features have been identified as requiring further accessibility assessment:

  • Horizontal scrolling portfolios and project galleries: Bespoke scrolling interactions require assessment to establish whether all content can be accessed and navigated without relying on a mouse or touch gestures.

  • Animations and page transitions: Introductory animations and transitions require assessment for reduced-motion compatibility, keyboard interaction and potential disruption to navigation.

  • Bespoke navigation and interactive controls: Custom navigation elements, project filters and interactive components require testing for keyboard accessibility, focus behaviour and compatibility with assistive technologies.

  • Colour and contrast: The website uses a variable accent colour system. Colour combinations, interactive states and text contrast require verification against the relevant accessibility criteria.

  • Responsive layouts: Content presentation and interactive functionality require assessment across different screen sizes, browser zoom levels and text scaling settings.

  • Images and visual content: Project photography, graphics and other visual elements require review to establish whether appropriate text alternatives are provided.

These areas have been identified for assessment and should not be interpreted as confirmed accessibility failures.

As testing progresses, we will seek to identify confirmed limitations, understand their impact and implement appropriate improvements.

Where information or functionality cannot be accessed, we will make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative means of obtaining the relevant information.

We encourage visitors to contact us about any barriers they encounter, including issues not identified above.

7. Third-Party Content and Services

Our website is developed using Wix Studio and may incorporate third-party services, embedded content, mapping tools or links to external websites.

Third-party functionality may introduce accessibility considerations that are not fully within our direct control.

We aim to consider accessibility when selecting and implementing third-party services and will review relevant functionality where practicable.

We cannot guarantee the accessibility of external websites or services that are not operated by Nicholson Nairn Architects.

Where accessibility barriers involving embedded or third-party functionality are identified, we will consider reasonable improvements or alternative means of accessing the relevant information.

8. Feedback and Accessibility Assistance
We welcome feedback about the accessibility and usability of our website.

If you experience difficulty accessing any part of the website, encounter an accessibility barrier or require information in an alternative format, please contact us.

  • The format or alternative assistance you require.

You do not need to disclose a disability or medical condition to request assistance.
We will consider accessibility requests individually and aim to acknowledge enquiries within five working days.

Where additional time is required to investigate an issue or arrange an alternative format, we will endeavour to keep you informed of progress.

9. Alternative Access to Information
If information available on our website is inaccessible to you, we will make reasonable efforts to provide it in an alternative format.

Depending on the nature of the request, this may include:

  • Providing information directly by email.

  • Supplying an accessible version of a document.

  • Explaining information through an alternative communication method.

  • Assisting with access to project information, services or contact details.

We will endeavour to agree a suitable approach based on individual accessibility requirements.

10. Accessibility Review and Maintenance

We recognise that maintaining an accessible website requires ongoing review as content, functionality and technologies change.

Our intended accessibility review process includes consideration of:

  • Navigation and interactive controls.

  • Keyboard accessibility and focus management.

  • Alternative text and image descriptions.

  • Colour contrast and text readability.

  • Responsive layouts, browser zoom and text resizing.

  • Motion, animation and interactive content.

  • Compatibility with relevant assistive technologies.

  • Accessibility of third-party services and embedded content.

We intend to use a combination of available accessibility checking tools, manual testing and review of identified issues to inform improvements.

Automated accessibility checks alone cannot confirm full WCAG conformance, and additional manual assessment may be necessary.

As assessments are completed, we aim to prioritise improvements that address significant barriers to accessing information and using the website.

11. Legal Framework
Nicholson Nairn Architects recognises its obligations under applicable UK equality legislation, including the Equality Act 2010.

Our accessibility objectives are informed by WCAG 2.2 Level AA and recognised digital accessibility practices.

WCAG provides a technical framework for assessing website accessibility; however, working towards this standard does not, in itself, establish compliance with all applicable legal obligations.

This statement describes our current accessibility objectives, assessment status and commitment to improvement. It does not constitute certification or confirmation of full technical conformance with any particular accessibility standard.

12. Review of This Statement

This Accessibility Statement will be reviewed periodically and updated where necessary to reflect changes to the website, completed accessibility assessments, identified accessibility barriers, relevant standards or applicable legislation.

We intend to update the website's stated conformance status once an appropriate accessibility assessment has been completed.

Statement last updated: 26 October 2026.
