Whickham Lodge
Gateshead
The Grade II listed property, forming the west wing of Whickham Lodge, is one of only four individual dwellings within this private and secluded location close to the centre of Whickham village. The proposed scheme sought to remove the existing sun room and garage extension which were detrimental to the historical character of the existing building.
The proposed scheme offers a contemporary, yet sympathetic addition to the existing building and further showcases the original historical building elements via this contrast of historical and contemporary.
This project has completely transformed the property, restoring the significance and authority of the property – highlighting it against a beautiful subservient extension. The space this creates is impressive, bringing light into a deep plan through the careful placement of flat roof lights and large corner glazing.
This beautiful and carefully detailed junction between the old and new helps to highlight the original walls – displaying them internally and externally.
