The Red House
Stocksfield

A major renovation and extension project with complete remodelling of landscaping. This charming 1890’s arts and crafts mansion had unfortunately fallen foul of a series of 20th Century ‘add ons’ resulting in a loss of period identity. The owners saw the potential and had the vision to restore the dwelling to its former glory.

Working closely with the client, their ‘dream home’ was designed to meet their needs whilst remaining true to the fundamentals of the building’s heritage. Boasting a detached oak frame garage, smart home system, swimming pool, gym, wine cellar, numerous reception rooms and even a ‘James Bond’ style hidden bookcase door, this project represents a true one off.

A key feature of the property is a contemporary frameless glass balustrade that wraps around the elevated aspects complimenting the traditional stonework beautifully. This theme continues with ‘walk on’ rooflights which integrate seamlessly into the stone paving of a new roof terrace, providing views down into the swimming pool below. A major aspect of the landscaping was the repositioning of the vehicular access to provide a more practical site entrance. This created an expansive garden space where before this had been divided by a lengthy driveway.
