A new industrial unit and office unit for Franklin Steel to relocate their Scottish headquarters. Our brief was to provide a large warehouse area for the storage of steel and associated products with a modern office unit attached incorporating a retail facility.

 

Located on one half of a large site between two existing industrial units the new office unit consists of lightweight composite cladding with aluminium ribbon windows to lighten the mass of the structure.

 

The warehouse building roof incorporates a large number of rooflights to provide a high level of light to enhance the working environment.

 

To solve the noise and transfer of vibrations from the two large overhead cranes installed to the warehouse space, the office unit section was designed with a separate steel frame with a sound reducing separating wall construction
